- 4 fresh apples, sliced
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 stick (1/2 cup) cold butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup oats
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine sliced apples with cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- Add brown sugar and toss until well-coated.
- Arrange the apple mixture evenly in a buttered baking dish.
- In another bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, oats, and salt.
- Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- If desired, add chopped pecans for extra crunch.
- Spread the topping over the apples and bake for 45 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
For a twist, substitute pears for apples and walnuts for pecans.
