- 1 package puff pastry or croissant dough
- 8 ounces (225 g) cream cheese
- 1/3 cup (65 g) granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cup strawberries, chopped
- 1 tablespoon sugar (for strawberries)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Coarse sugar (optional, for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Soften cream cheese at room temperature and beat it smooth with granulated sugar, vanilla extract, lemon zest, and lemon juice.
- Chop strawberries and toss with sugar. Optionally, simmer with cornstarch and water until thickened.
- Roll out puff pastry, cut into heart shapes, and place on a baking sheet.
- Add a dollop of cream cheese mixture to the center of each heart and top with strawberries.
- Brush edges with beaten egg and sprinkle coarse sugar if desired.
- Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 12–16 minutes until golden and puffed.
Notes
For a twist, substitute strawberries with raspberries or mixed berry compote. Ensure to keep ingredients cold for the best texture.
