Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat flour)
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 to 1.5 cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • Optional: herbs (like rosemary or thyme), sautéed garlic, or cheese

Instructions

  1. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, salt, and sugar. Stir well to combine.
  2. Add Water: Gradually pour in warm water. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until elastic.
  4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for approximately 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape and Second Rise: Punch down, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased loaf pan. Let rise for another 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat and Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Cool and Enjoy: Let cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack. Slice and enjoy warm!

Notes

Ensure to check the freshness of your yeast before starting. Cover the dough during rising to prevent drying out.
