Description
Mini Apple Pies are a celebration of autumn flavors with a flaky crust and a filling of sautéed apples, cinnamon, and nutmeg, making them a perfect portable treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and diced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples: Peel and dice your apples into small cubes, setting them into a bowl. Add lemon juice to prevent browning.
- Sauté the Apples: In a skillet, melt butter and add apples, sugars, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sauté until the apples become soft and fragrant but still hold their shape—about 5-7 minutes. Cool the filling before use.
- Prepare the Crust: Roll out the pie crust and use a cutter to make circles slightly larger than your muffin tin openings.
- Assemble the Pies: Gently press the dough circles into the muffin tin. Fill each with the cooled apple mixture, allowing them to overflow slightly.
- Top and Bake: Create lattice tops with the remaining dough, cover each pie, and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Finish: Let them cool slightly, and then savor.
Notes
For extra crispness, start with cold ingredients and brush the tops with egg wash before baking.
