Description
Delicious and easy make-ahead fall appetizers featuring roasted squash, mushrooms, and creamy goat cheese wrapped in flaky puff pastry.
Ingredients
- Puff pastry sheets
- Goat cheese or cream cheese
- Fresh mushrooms (such as cremini or shiitake)
- Roasted butternut squash
- Caramelized onions
- Fresh rosemary and thyme
Instructions
- Prepare the Components: Start by roasting the butternut squash—cubes sprinkled with olive oil, rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper. Bake at 400°F (200°C) until tender and caramelized.
- Caramelize the Onions: In a skillet, cook sliced onions in butter over medium heat until they soften and develop a rich brown color, about 15 minutes.
- Sauté the Mushrooms: Use the same skillet to sauté thinly sliced mushrooms until browned and slightly crispy.
- Assemble the Appetizers: Roll out the puff pastry and cut into squares. To each square, add a spoonful of goat cheese, a slice of roasted squash, some caramelized onion, and mushrooms.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the prepared pastry squares on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake until the pastry puffs and turns golden, about 15-20 minutes.
Notes
Ensure the puff pastry remains cool for the flakiest result. Overfilling can cause soggy centers, so use a balanced spoonful of each ingredient.
