Description

Delicious and festive Rice Krispie treats decorated to resemble Frankenstein, perfect for Halloween celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups crisp puffed rice cereal
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, plus extra for greasing the pan
  • 10 ounces marshmallows (about one standard bag) or 4 cups mini marshmallows
  • Green gel food coloring
  • Black or dark chocolate chips
  • Candy bolts, gummy eyes, or black licorice for accents
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Measure the cereal into a large bowl.
  3. Melt the butter in a wide saucepan over low heat, then add marshmallows and stir until melted.
  4. Remove from heat and add salt and green gel coloring.
  5. Fold in the puffed rice until evenly coated.
  6. Press the mixture into the prepared pan using a buttered spatula.
  7. Let cool slightly and cut into rectangles.
  8. Pipe melted chocolate for hair and face stitches.
  9. Press on candy bolts or eyes while chocolate is still tacky.
  10. Let bars set at room temperature for 20-30 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a buttery edge, bake the finished slab at 350°F for 5-7 minutes. Avoid over-pressing the mixture into the pan to keep treats light and airy.
