Description

A foolproof method for cooking rice to perfection, ensuring fluffy and separate grains every time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice (Jasmine or Basmati)
  • 1 1/4 cups water or low-sodium broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter or neutral oil
  • Optional: small bay leaf, clove of smashed garlic, or sprigs of thyme

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice in cold water until the rinse water runs mostly clear.
  2. Measure rice using a 1:1.25 rice-to-liquid ratio.
  3. Toast rice gently in butter or oil for 1–2 minutes until translucent.
  4. Add water or broth, salt, and aromatics; bring to a simmer uncovered.
  5. Reduce heat to the lowest setting, cover tightly, and do not lift the lid.
  6. Cook undisturbed for 12–18 minutes (35–45 for brown rice).
  7. Remove from heat, let rest covered for 10 minutes, and fluff gently.
  8. Serve immediately or keep warm.

Notes

If rice appears undercooked, add a tablespoon of hot water and steam for an additional 3–5 minutes.
