Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream together the softened butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, followed by the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder, then gradually add to the butter mixture until just combined.
- Divide the dough into portions and knead in food coloring until you reach your desired hues.
- Layer bits of colored dough, roll into a log shape, and cut into small pieces to form balls.
- Place on prepared baking sheets, flatten slightly, and bake for 8-10 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
- Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
Start with room temperature ingredients for better mixing. Don’t overmix the dough and allow cookies to cool briefly to avoid breaking.
