  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (gel for best results)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, followed by the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder, then gradually add to the butter mixture until just combined.
  5. Divide the dough into portions and knead in food coloring until you reach your desired hues.
  6. Layer bits of colored dough, roll into a log shape, and cut into small pieces to form balls.
  7. Place on prepared baking sheets, flatten slightly, and bake for 8-10 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Start with room temperature ingredients for better mixing. Don’t overmix the dough and allow cookies to cool briefly to avoid breaking.
