Delightful cookie bars loaded with chocolate chips and M&M’s that evoke joy and nostalgia.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup M&M’s (plus extra for topping)
  • A pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix this dry mixture into the wet batter until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips and M&M’s, saving a handful for topping.
  6. Spread the dough evenly in the prepared baking pan and bake for 20-25 minutes until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Allow to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice into squares and serve.

Notes

For an extra special touch, drizzle melted chocolate on top once cooled.
