Description

Delightfully spooky chocolate cupcakes topped with creamy frosting and a whimsical spider web design.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or substitute with yogurt or milk mixed with vinegar)
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 34 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 24 tbsp heavy cream (or milk)
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a large bowl, mix dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk eggs and sugar until frothy. Add buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Spoon the batter into cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  6. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  7. In a bowl, beat the butter for frosting until light and fluffy. Gradually mix in powdered sugar. Add vanilla and cream to achieve desired consistency.
  8. Once cooled, frost the cupcakes and melt chocolate chips. Drizzle over cupcakes in a circular pattern, using a toothpick to create a web design.
  9. Top with gummy spiders for extra decoration.

Notes

Use quality chocolate for the spider web to achieve the best finish. Allow cupcakes to cool completely before frosting.
