- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup softened butter (for frosting)
- 2 cups confectioner’s sugar (for frosting)
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
- Milk as needed (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with paper liners.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vegetable oil until combined. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then whisk in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet, alternating with buttermilk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
- Fill each cupcake liner about 2/3 full with batter.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- For the frosting, beat together the softened butter, confectioner’s sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract. Add milk as needed for consistency.
- Once cool, frost the cupcakes generously with the Chocolate Fudge Frosting.
Notes
Use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version and substitute for dairy-free options if needed.
