Description

A simple, soulful recipe for homemade stroopwafels filled with warm, buttery caramel, perfect for cozy mornings or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for syrup)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or molasses (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Warm milk to lukewarm, stir in 1 teaspoon sugar and yeast. Wait until foamy (5–8 minutes).
  2. Cream butter and remaining sugar until light. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in foamy yeast, vanilla, and flour to form soft dough.
  3. Cover and let dough rest for 30 minutes.
  4. Make the caramel by melting butter and brown sugar together, adding honey/molasses and cinnamon, and simmering until glossy (about 5 minutes).
  5. Roll rested dough into thin circles, cook in a waffle iron until golden, and assemble with spoonfuls of caramel.

Notes

Serve warm for best results. For extra crispness, re-toast briefly after assembly.
