Description
A quick and savory stuffing made with buttery breadcrumbs and earthy mushrooms, perfect for Thanksgiving or any cozy meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 10 cups stale bread cubes (sourdough or country white)
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (or olive oil for dairy-free)
- 1 large yellow onion, finely diced
- 3 stalks celery, thinly sliced
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced (cremini or button)
- 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced (or dried garlic)
- 2 tablespoons fresh herbs (thyme and rosemary, chopped)
- 2 1/2 cups chicken or vegetable broth (low-sodium preferred)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Optional: cooked sausage, diced apples, chopped pecans, or dried cranberries
Instructions
- Prepare all ingredients: tear the bread into cubes and set it on a sheet pan to dry if needed. Chop the vegetables and measure the broth.
- Set the Instant Pot to Sauté and melt the butter until foamy. Add the onion and celery; cook until translucent and slightly golden.
- Add the sliced mushrooms and continue to sauté until they release their liquid and begin to brown.
- Stir in the garlic and fresh herbs, cooking for 30 to 60 seconds until fragrant.
- Turn off Sauté. Add the bread cubes to the pot and toss gently. Pour the warm broth over the bread and season with salt and pepper, compacting slightly.
- Secure the lid and set the Instant Pot to Manual/High Pressure for 5 minutes. Use natural release for 5 minutes before quick-releasing any remaining pressure.
- Open the lid and fluff the dressing with a fork. Adjust seasoning and, if desired, spread on a baking sheet and bake at 375°F for 10–12 minutes for a crisp top.
Notes
Use warm broth for even cooking. Avoid packing the pot too tightly. For a crispy topping, dot with butter before baking.
