Description
A crispy orange chicken recipe that adds a bright twist to traditional fried chicken with tangy sweetness.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)
- Green onions and sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to create a flavorful dredging mixture. Coat your chicken pieces thoroughly in this mixture for that ultimate crunch.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the chicken pieces in batches, frying them until they are golden brown and crispy.
- In a separate saucepan, combine the orange juice, sugar, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Cook this mixture over medium heat, stirring frequently until it thickens.
- Once the chicken is perfectly crispy, toss it into the saucepan with the thickened orange sauce. Ensure every piece is generously coated.
- Serve your crispy orange chicken hot, garnished with fresh green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
Notes
For a crispier result, double-dredge the chicken. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
