Description
A warm and comforting dessert that layers sticky honey and woody cinnamon, perfect for cozy gatherings or quiet afternoons.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar (or 3/4 cup brown sugar)
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp fine salt
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled (or browned butter)
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 cup milk or half-and-half
- 1/2 cup honey, plus extra for drizzling
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Optional: 1/2 cup chopped toasted pecans or walnuts; pinch of flaky sea salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter a 9-inch skillet or an 8×8-inch baking dish and set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the melted butter, eggs, milk, honey, and vanilla until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mix and fold gently until no streaks remain.
- If using nuts, fold them in now. Spoon the batter into the prepared skillet or dish and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Drizzle an extra 2 tablespoons of honey across the top. Bake until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean, usually 30–40 minutes.
- Let the dessert cool for 10–15 minutes, then run a knife around the edge and invert onto a serving plate.
- Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream, whipped cream, or as is with coffee.
Notes
This dessert pairs well with tea or coffee and can be served warm straight from the skillet.
