Description

A warm and comforting dessert that layers sticky honey and woody cinnamon, perfect for cozy gatherings or quiet afternoons.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (or 3/4 cup brown sugar)
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp fine salt
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled (or browned butter)
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup milk or half-and-half
  • 1/2 cup honey, plus extra for drizzling
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped toasted pecans or walnuts; pinch of flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter a 9-inch skillet or an 8×8-inch baking dish and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the melted butter, eggs, milk, honey, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mix and fold gently until no streaks remain.
  5. If using nuts, fold them in now. Spoon the batter into the prepared skillet or dish and smooth the top with a spatula.
  6. Drizzle an extra 2 tablespoons of honey across the top. Bake until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean, usually 30–40 minutes.
  7. Let the dessert cool for 10–15 minutes, then run a knife around the edge and invert onto a serving plate.
  8. Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream, whipped cream, or as is with coffee.

Notes

This dessert pairs well with tea or coffee and can be served warm straight from the skillet.
