Description

A heartwarming dish of sweet, buttery yams, perfect for family gatherings and holidays, enhanced with a syrupy glaze of brown sugar and spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 45 medium-sized fresh yams or sweet potatoes
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel the yams and slice them into ½-inch thick rounds.
  3. In a large bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and water; stir until smooth.
  4. In a baking dish, layer the yam slices and pour the syrup mixture evenly over them.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for about 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20-30 minutes, basting occasionally, until tender and syrup thickens.
  6. Let them cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For a slightly different flavor, consider adding a splash of orange juice or zest. Avoid overcrowding the baking dish for the best texture.
