- Sausage (Italian, breakfast, or your preferred variety)
- Celery
- Onion
- Garlic
- Chicken or vegetable broth
- Fresh parsley
- Fresh sage
- Fresh thyme
- Fresh rosemary
- 1 Egg
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
- Prepare cornbread and allow it to cool completely.
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat and sauté chopped onions and celery until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add garlic towards the end to avoid burning.
- Remove sausage from casing and add to skillet, breaking it up and cooking until browned.
- In a large bowl, crumble the cornbread and add the cooked sausage mixture, chopped herbs, and enough broth to moisten.
- Incorporate egg and mix gently.
- Transfer to a greased baking dish, cover with foil, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes to achieve a crispy topping.
Notes
Adjust the amount of broth to achieve your desired stuffing consistency. Experiment with different herbs and add red pepper flakes for heat if desired.
