- Lasagna noodles (green or regular, fresh or dried)
- Ground meat (beef and Italian sausage, or turkey/meat alternative)
- Fresh crushed tomatoes or high-quality canned tomatoes
- 1 white onion, finely chopped
- 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
- Fresh basil and oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- Blends of mozzarella and Parmesan
- Optional: cream cheese, whole wheat noodles, plant-based cheeses
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, sautéing until translucent.
- Incorporate ground meat and brown until cooked through.
- Stir in tomatoes, herbs, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for at least 30 minutes.
- In a bowl, combine ricotta, egg, salt, and chopped herbs.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a baking dish, layer meat sauce, noodles, and cheese mixture. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Let the lasagna rest for 15 minutes before cutting.
Notes
For extra depth of flavor, use a mix of cheeses and drizzle olive oil before baking. Make sure to let the lasagna rest for clean slices.
