  • Ground meat (beef and Italian sausage, or turkey/meat alternative)
  • Fresh crushed tomatoes or high-quality canned tomatoes
  • 1 white onion, finely chopped
  • 23 cloves garlic, minced
  • Fresh basil and oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • Blends of mozzarella and Parmesan
  • Optional: cream cheese, whole wheat noodles, plant-based cheeses

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, sautéing until translucent.
  2. Incorporate ground meat and brown until cooked through.
  3. Stir in tomatoes, herbs, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for at least 30 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, combine ricotta, egg, salt, and chopped herbs.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a baking dish, layer meat sauce, noodles, and cheese mixture. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with mozzarella and Parmesan.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  7. Let the lasagna rest for 15 minutes before cutting.
