- 2 cups elbow macaroni
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 cup mild cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil for sautéing
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the pasta in salted boiling water for about 7 minutes until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté chopped onions until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Increase the heat and add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, and herbs. Cook until browned.
- Lower the heat; stir in the tomato sauce and drained pasta, mixing until well-coated.
- Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish and sprinkle cheese on top.
- Bake for about 25 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Allow cooling for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, consider adding sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers to the beef mixture. Let the casserole rest after baking for better presentation.
