Description
A comforting and classic dessert featuring tender apples, aromatic cinnamon, and a flaky crust, served warm with vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
- 6 tablespoons ice water
- 6–7 cups apples (Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
- ¾ cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 2 tablespoons butter (for dotting)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Vanilla ice cream (for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add cold, diced butter and blend until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle in ice water, mixing until the dough holds together. Divide in half, shape into disks, wrap, and chill for at least an hour.
- Peel and slice apples. Toss with sugar, ground cinnamon, and flour.
- Roll out one dough disk and place it in a 9-inch pie pan. Fill with apple mixture and dot with butter.
- Roll out the second disk and cover the filling. Crimp edges, cut slits for steam, and brush with egg wash.
- Bake for 50–60 minutes until the crust is golden and juices are bubbling. Let cool slightly before serving.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Notes
For a nuttier crust, substitute half of the all-purpose flour for whole wheat flour. Adjust cinnamon according to preference.
