Description

A comforting and classic dessert featuring tender apples, aromatic cinnamon, and a flaky crust, served warm with vanilla ice cream.


Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
  • 6 tablespoons ice water
  • 67 cups apples (Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for dotting)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Vanilla ice cream (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add cold, diced butter and blend until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Sprinkle in ice water, mixing until the dough holds together. Divide in half, shape into disks, wrap, and chill for at least an hour.
  4. Peel and slice apples. Toss with sugar, ground cinnamon, and flour.
  5. Roll out one dough disk and place it in a 9-inch pie pan. Fill with apple mixture and dot with butter.
  6. Roll out the second disk and cover the filling. Crimp edges, cut slits for steam, and brush with egg wash.
  7. Bake for 50–60 minutes until the crust is golden and juices are bubbling. Let cool slightly before serving.
  8. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

For a nuttier crust, substitute half of the all-purpose flour for whole wheat flour. Adjust cinnamon according to preference.
