Description
A delightful pastry featuring a creamy cheese filling and sweet, tart cherries wrapped in flaky puff pastry, perfect for breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet Puff Pastry
- 8 oz Cream Cheese
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 2 cups Cherries (fresh, frozen, or canned)
- 1 Egg (for egg wash)
- Optional: Lemon Zest
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface to about a quarter-inch thickness and cut into 4-inch squares.
- In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, half of the sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Optionally, add lemon zest.
- In another bowl, combine cherries with the remaining sugar. If using fresh cherries, chop them slightly for easier spreading.
- Place a spoonful of cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry square, top with cherry mixture, then fold corners over to create a pouch-like shape.
- Brush tops with egg wash and bake for about 25-30 minutes until golden and flaky.
- Let cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve.
Notes
Ensure the puff pastry is cold for flakiness. Don’t overfill the danish to maintain shape. Allow them to cool slightly after baking.
