Description

Delightful Black Velvet Cupcakes infused with cocoa and a hint of coffee, topped with luscious cream cheese frosting.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup brewed coffee (or hot water)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your cupcake pan with liners.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then beat in the eggs and vanilla.
  4. Slowly incorporate dry ingredients and alternating coffee until just combined.
  5. Fill each liner about two-thirds full and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Allow cupcakes to cool before frosting with cream cheese frosting.

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute some butter with applesauce. Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for better blending.
