Description
A beloved recipe for classic apple pie featuring a buttery crust, warm spices, and juicy apple filling, perfect for family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4–6 medium apples (Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
- ¾ cup granulated white sugar (or brown sugar)
- 1½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp butter
- Pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
- Flour (for thickening)
- Egg wash (for top)
Instructions
- Prepare the Pie Crust: Roll out your dough to fit a 9-inch pie pan, leaving an overhang. Pre-bake the bottom crust slightly for crispness.
- Make the Filling: Peel, core, and slice the apples about ¼ inch thick. Toss them in lemon juice, sugar, spices, and flour. Let them sit for 15 minutes to draw out juices.
- Assemble the Pie: Pour the apple mixture into the crust. Dot with butter, place your top crust, and flute the edges.
- Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 15 minutes, then downshift to 350°F (175°C), baking for another 45-50 minutes. Shield the edges if they brown too quickly.
- Cool Before Serving: Allow the pie to cool for at least two hours; this helps the filling set beautifully.
Notes
For a gluten-free option, substitute with oat and almond flour. Remember to avoid overpowering spices and to cool before slicing for the best presentation.
