Description
Delicious apple pie bars topped with a crumbly streusel, perfect for fall gatherings and family traditions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup ice water
- 4 cups fresh apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in chilled butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water, stirring until the dough comes together. Press the dough into a greased baking dish evenly to form the crust.
- Peel and slice apples and place them in another bowl. Toss with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch. Let the mixture sit for a few minutes.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together oats, flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Pour melted butter over and stir until it resembles crumbs.
- Spread the apple filling over the crust, then sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender. Allow to cool before cutting into squares.
Notes
Choose a variety of apples for depth of flavor, and be cautious not to overbake to prevent burning the streusel.
