Description

A comforting dish featuring tender pork shoulder braised in sweet apple cider, infused with fresh herbs for a deliciously rich flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 23 lbs Pork Shoulder
  • 2 cups Apple Cider
  • 1 Onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 Sprigs Fresh Thyme
  • 2 Sprigs Fresh Sage
  • 2 cups Chicken or Vegetable Broth
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Season the pork shoulder generously with salt and pepper.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat and sear the pork on all sides until golden brown.
  3. Remove the pork and sauté onions and garlic in the same skillet until translucent.
  4. Deglaze the pan with apple cider, scraping up brown bits.
  5. Return the pork to the skillet, add herbs and enough broth to cover at least half of the meat.
  6. Bring to a gentle simmer, cover, and transfer to a preheated oven at 300°F (150°C) for 3-4 hours, until fork-tender.
  7. Let the pork rest for 15 minutes before shredding and serve with the sauce.

Notes

For deeper flavor, make this dish a day ahead. Adjust broth as needed during cooking.
