Description

The ultimate sourdough bread grilled cheese sandwich with melty cheddar, creamy gouda, and a golden, crispy crust. Irresistibly comforting and full of flavor.


Ingredients

2 slices sourdough bread, cut 1/2 inch thick

1 to 2 tablespoons mayonnaise

1 1/4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, grated

1 ounce gouda cheese, grated

2 teaspoons butter (a large knob)


Instructions

1. Spread mayonnaise on the outside of each slice of sourdough bread.

2. Layer the grated sharp cheddar and gouda on the inside of one slice.

3. Close the sandwich and press slightly.

4. Heat a skillet over medium-low heat and melt the butter.

5. Place the sandwich mayo-side down in the skillet.

6. Toast each side for 3–4 minutes, flipping once, until golden and cheese is melted.

7. Slice and serve hot.

Notes

Use freshly grated cheese for best melting texture.

Sourdough bread adds tang and structure, avoid cutting slices thicker than 1/2 inch.
