Ingredients
3/4 cup Cocoa
1 cup boiling water
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons butter, softened
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup sour cream
1 cup salted butter (for frosting)
3 teaspoons vanilla (for frosting)
4 cups icing sugar
5–6 tablespoons heavy cream
2 cups orange candy melts
1/4 cup confectioners sugar (for decorating)
Green food coloring gel
Black food coloring gel or black food writer
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a cake pan.
Whisk cocoa into boiling water and set aside to cool.
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
Combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the batter.
Stir in the sour cream and cocoa mixture.
Pour into pan and bake for 35 minutes or until done. Cool completely.
Crumble cake and mix with buttercream frosting until dough forms.
Roll into balls and chill for 1 hour.
Dip in candy melts and decorate with colored icing or edible markers.
Notes
Add maple, cinnamon, or mint extract to the frosting for extra seasonal flavor.
Chill cake balls before dipping to avoid cracks in the coating.
Store finished pops in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
For spooky decor, use candy eyes, sprinkles, or colored sugar.
