- 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
- Pinch of salt
- ½ cup cold unsalted butter
- ½ cup cold milk
- ½ cup sugar (for filling)
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- Optional: ½ teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Slowly pour in cold milk until dough forms. Knead gently on floured surface for 1-2 minutes. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- In a small bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon. Optional: add nutmeg.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll chilled dough into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick. Spread melted butter and sprinkle cinnamon-sugar mixture over it.
- Slice dough into 1-inch strips, twist each strip, and place on a lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Optional: drizzle with powdered sugar glaze before serving.
Notes
Ensure butter is cold for flakiness. Avoid overcrowding the baking sheet for even cooking.
