Description
Delightfully warm and buttery, these Cinnamon Sugar Soft Pretzels combine sweet and savory flavors, making them a nostalgic treat for gatherings and cozy moments.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2¼ teaspoons yeast
- ¼ cup butter, melted
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk, warm
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- ½ cup baking soda
- 1–2 tablespoons cinnamon (for topping)
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: Warm the milk until it’s around 110°F. Dissolve yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar into the milk and let it rest for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine flour, ½ cup sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center, add melted butter and yeast mixture, and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm area until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Shape the Pretzels: Punch down the dough, divide into 8 portions, roll each into a rope, and twist into a pretzel shape.
- Second Rise and Baking Soda Bath: Preheat oven to 425°F. Prepare a baking soda bath with 8 cups of water and ½ cup baking soda. Boil pretzels for 30 seconds and then place on a greased baking sheet.
- Add Egg Wash and Sugar: Brush each pretzel with beaten egg and sprinkle with a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.
- Bake: Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool and Enjoy: Allow pretzels to cool slightly before serving.
